The Housing Justice Campaign Arrives at City Hall

On February 29, 2024, PCAC members held a campaign and report launch at City Hall.

Housing Justice

The Philadelphia Coalition for Affordable Communities is calling for the passage of legislation committing 50% of all housing dollars to households who need it most, households earning $28,600 per year or less.

WHAT IS PCAC?

The Philadelphia Coalition for Affordable Communities, a coalition of community, disability, faith, arts, labor, and urban agriculture organizations, is dedicated to advocating for legislation addressing Philadelphia’s housing and food affordability crises. With 77 member organizations representing over 100,000 poor and working-class Philadelphians—many without affordable housing—we unite around a commitment to affordability and genuine constituent leadership development.

Originating from the Philadelphia Affordable Housing Coalition (PAHC), PCAC has secured over $800 million in new city funding for affordable housing in the past 23 years. Key achievements include establishing Philadelphia’s Housing Trust Fund and Land Bank. Notable recent wins involve amending Philadelphia’s Charter to allocate 0.5% of the general fund, adding approximately $25 million annually to the City’s housing budget. In December 2022, PCAC successfully advocated for Land Justice legislation, influencing new disposition policies in two council districts. These policies prioritize community-determined land uses, adjust timelines for resource gathering, and favor community-owned projects promoting permanent affordability.
